Social Media Marketing: Best Twitter Apps for Mobile | Real Estate ...

Social Media Marketing: Best Twitter Apps

rhokberlin (flickr)

The mistakes that most rental professionals can make with their Twitter account usually stem from the fact that they don?t understand the service. Specifically, they don?t realize how geared Twitter is toward mobile use. Twitter was invented for people to essentially publish their thoughts on-the-go, in real time, and it?s no coincidence that the text limit of a tweet is 140 characters, or the approximate character limit of a standard text message. The idea is that you will share your thoughts and opinions as they happen when you?re out and about. Your prospective leads are using Twitter this way, so you should as well.

For this reason, we suggest to you that to be use the service, you download some sort of app to your smartphone to employ Twitter to get your thoughts out.?As a rental professional, you?re mostly out and about anyway.

Tweetdeck

This is the most popular of all Twitter mobile apps ? so popular that Twitter had to own it themselves, buying it up in 2011. You can?t send your tweets out to other networks with this one for that reason (no more Foursquare or LinkedIn) except for Facebook. You can digest rental real estate news easily with Tweetdeck.

HootSuite

This app is ideal if you have multiple Twitter accounts, perhaps a professional one and a personal one, and also other social networks. ?They have apps for iPhone and Android both, as well as for Blackberry. They have a lot of bells and whistles for real Twitter fanatics such as click-through reports and message translation features, but for you as a rental professional, the most key aspect of this app is that you can send out your tweets on your business account separately from your personal account easily on this interface.

Echofon

The main selling point of this iPhone app is how clean it is. If you find the whole Twitter thing overwhelming sometimes, the less cluttered interface might be just the ticket to get you marketing your rentals and services on Twitter.

These are just some suggestions, and others you may choose to look into include TweetCaster and Plume for Android, and TweetBot and Twitterrific for iPhone. Ultimately, whichever program you feel most comfortable with is the right choice. The most important takeaway is to get your rental business on Twitter, especially on the go.

'Survivor' shocker: Who won the $1 million?

CBS

"Survivor: Philippines" final four.

By Bruna Nessif, E! Online

The sole survivor and winner of $1 million from this season of "Survivor: Philippines" was named Sunday night, but not before two-hours of struggles, challenges, sweat and tears.

Lisa Whelchel, Michael Skupin, Malcolm Freberg and Denise Stapley made it to the final four, but all anyone was thinking about now was who would be cut when it came to the three going to the final. It seemed like Denise was the likely competitor to get the boot. Was she??

Before we found out, they faced their first challenge, which required each person to race through an obstacle course and collect three bags that contained puzzle pieces. It's always a puzzle! The first person to complete the dragon puzzle would win an advantage in the final Immunity Challenge the next night.

"Survivor's" Jeff Probst talks sharing custody with Mark-Paul Gosselaar

Michael and Malcolm were off to a good start, until it came to untying knots. That's when Denise zoomed by and it was neck-and-neck between the three of them with Lisa falling behind. However, it wasn't about who got the bags fastest, it was all about the puzzle, and everything seemed to be going in Denise's favor because she was killin' it.?

But nope, it was Malcolm who won (duh). So the guy who was already a huge threat, was an even bigger threat. Back to the final three discussion -- where do the alliances stand? Malcolm refused to commit to his lady Denise, so she went off to Lisa to form something with her, and then told Skupin that she decided to turn against Malcolm. Whaaat?!

The top reality shows of 2012

Mike and Lisa formed a pact with both Malcolm and Denise without the other person knowing, so they were in a pretty sweet spot. For now. The sad part was they wanted Denise because they felt so strongly that she was beatable. Yes, smart thinking, but still sad.?

Before backs started getting stabbed, the foursome did the Lost Comrades Walk, to remember those who were sent home this season. Once that trip down memory lane was over, it was back to the game and time for the last Immunity Challenge. And boy was it a doozy. Each player had a cylinder block that was cut into several pieces. With two handlebars, they had to hold a piece up in the air while balancing a ball on the block. Every five minutes, they'd add more blocks and attempt to balance the ball again. If at any point the ball fell, they were out. Deep breath.

Top 10 TV OMG moments of 2012

Don't forget! Malcolm won the advantage, which was revealed as a second chance. If his ball dropped, he would get a free reset. Good thing for that, too, because he was the first to drop his ball, causing everyone to start that round all over again. And yet again, a shaky Malcolm failed the challenge and was the first person out. Told you, this was intense.

Denise was the second person out, leaving Mike and Lisa up for immunity. After what seemed like a lifetime of wobbly arms, wind slightly moving the ball, close-ups of Mike's stomach sweat and Jeff Probst commentary every two seconds, Lisa dropped her ball, giving Michael immunity and a spot in the final three.?

"Survivor's" Lisa Whelchel has West Nile Virus

Now Mike was facing a dilemma: Should he stick with Denise or Malcolm in the finals? On the one hand, Denise would be easier to beat. On the other hand, Skupin's competitive, male ego really wanted to face-off with Malcolm in a head-to-head battle to see who would win in the end.

Once at Tribal Council, Denise voted for Malcolm and vice versa (obvious), Lisa made it clear she wanted Malcolm out, so the vote that really mattered was Mike's. Was he going to take the favored road and boot his strongest competitor or let his ego take over? Well, if you were hoping to see Mike and Malcolm battle it out in the finals, sorry, it won't happen.

The final three are Lisa, Mike and Denise, with Malcolm joining the jury.

Lisa Whelchel breaks down on "Survivor: Philippines": "Maybe I'm just not able to play the game"

After a hearty breakfast, full of sausage, bacon, peppers and orange juice (to name a few things), the trio faced the jury at the last Tribal Council.

During opening statements, Denise, Lisa and Mike each discuss their similar yet also somewhat different tactics on what got them to the finals, but it was pretty much a bunch of talk that we already expected. It was during the jury questioning that things got a little saucy. Veteran Jonathan Penner revealed Lisa's child star past -- gasp! So did that change things up?

Possibly, because when the votes were tallied and all was said and done, it was Denise who won it all.

Were you happy with the results?! Let us know on?Facebook!

Bangkok condo growth highest in ASEAN - Real Estate - Thailand ...

The number of real estate projects, particularly condominiums, in the Thai capital is the highest in the ASEAN countries and triples that of Jakarta, which ranks second highest, according to the Thai Appraisal Foundation. Analysts around the region are closely monitoring the fast growing housing projects here.

In the first nine months of this year, new condominiums in Bangkok sprouted up at the rate of 42 per cent year-on-year.

According to the Real Estate Information Centre, skyrocketing condominium construction is caused by many factors?changing weather, flood-prone locations, more strict related law, urban lifestyles, and elevated and underground electric mass transit extension.

Bangkok Condo sprout

In the first nine months of this year, new condominiums in Bangkok sprouted up at the rate of 42 per cent year-on-year.

?

Government Housing Bank real estate information center director Samma Kitsin said four locations studded with condominiums are Huay Kwang-Chatuchak, the Bangna end of Sukhumvit Road in Bangkok, the tourist and industry-concentrated province of Chonburi and the seaside resort zone of Hua Hin and Cha-am.

More condominiums are on the way as developers and investors see a rising future housing demand, particularly after the formation of the ASEAN Economic Community in 2015.

?The condominium market is highly competitive. Projects not achieving target sales quotas set by the financial institution will not be given financial credit to continue, so construction will be put on hold,?

Mr Samma said.Thai Appraisal Foundation president Sophon Pornchokchai sees condominium sales accounting for 70 per cent of housing market shares. The ratio of home buyers and speculators is 2:1 now.Real estate prices slightly increase by five per cent annually and there is no sign of a real estate bubble, he added.?Currently, finished condominiums are mostly occupied by the owners themselves. This is not a problem, but if it grows unstoppably, it is not a good sign and the growth is probably related to purchasing for speculation. In some countries, speculation can be prevented as banks do not give loans to speculators,? he said.

Changing Baby Boomer Home Remodeling Needs

Changing Baby Boomer
Home Remodeling Needs

Baby Boomers

are making plans for a time in the near future when we will move into retirement, which includes transforming the old homestead where we raised our families in years past into our ideal retirement space with features that will allow us to live there as long as possible - high convenience and low maintenance.

With 76 million American Baby Boomers approaching our retirement, our home remodeling needs are considerable.?

Baby Boomers - a demographic reserved for people born between 1946 and 1964.

These new needs have become one of the fastest-growing segments of the remodeling industry. These needs are shaping the builder's decision on how to design, build and remodel their homes to Baby Boomers.

For example, most of the homes built or remodeled for Baby Boomers featured first-floor master bedrooms and bathrooms, roomier living and access spaces.

Remodeling considerations now include taller and more accessible toilets, more ergonomically correct handles and hardware, lowering the heights of sinks and cabinets for easier access with microwave ovens set in lower cabinets.

Most important to Baby Boomers want to look forward to playing more and working less in our retirement with our primary goal being to unleash ourselves from our homes, with living areas and yards that are easier to maintain.

Baby Boomers?want home improvement widgets to upgrade the aesthetic, environmental, and technological standards of products for our home design.

Baby Boomers are conscientious and picky, busy and family-oriented, and will age in a new way, connected to modernity, with an eye to beauty, high design and energy efficiency. We have high expectations and can afford to get what we want.

DHS Auditors Want US-CERT to Share More with Intl Partners

The Department of Homeland Security?s inspector general issued a report last August finding inconsistent communication with international partners in cybersecurity, Fierce Government IT reports.

According to David Perera?s report, auditors found the U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team is not forging strong relationships with their international allies.

Auditors want strong communication between US-CERT and its foreign counterparts for continued working relationship among the agencies.

Foreign CERT officials expressed sentiments about US-CERT?s slow or lack of response to auditors and one said he would like to ask US-CERT to share its threat information. Perera reported.

However, DHS officials believe that the data is proprietary and cannot be shared due to potential effects on U.S. security.

Rand Beers, head of DHS? national protection and programs directorate, said US-CERT already allocates enough resources to international collaboration.

California considers farmworker overtime bill

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) ? California farmworkers would be paid overtime after working an eight-hour day or 40 hours in a week, the same as other non-management employees, under a bill approved by the state Senate on Monday over the objections of Republican lawmakers.

Farm laborers currently are paid overtime after working 10 hours in a day or a 60-hour week under a legal exemption that dates to 1941.

Former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, a Republican, vetoed a similar bill two years ago, but backers hope Gov. Jerry Brown, a Democrat, will sign it.

"We have overtime, eight-hour days, for a very simple reason. People are entitled to some period for recreation, for rest, for relief from the work that they do," said Sen. Joe Simitian, D-Palo Alto, who carried the bill. "It's fundamental questions of fairness, equity and simple common sense."

Sen. Jean Fuller, R-Bakersfield, said AB1313 will end up harming laborers because farm owners will cut their hours or switch to crops that can be harvested mechanically, rather than pay overtime.

"We will lose jobs. The price of certain food commodities will go up," she said.

Sen. Doug La Malfa, R-Willows, said many migrant workers in his experience want to work longer hours six days a week.

"It's a wrongheaded measure. It doesn't really help ag workers who want to get that time in to help return home to their families," La Malfa said.

The bill is supported by the United Farm Workers but opposed by growers and agribusiness organizations. The industry employs as many as 450,000 workers in California in the peak harvest months of August and September.

"These workers like this. It gives them flexibility," said Sen. Tom Berryhill, R-Modesto. "After 10 hours, everyone gets their overtime."

The bill was approved on a party-line, 22-15 vote and now goes to the Assembly.

The governor's office would not say how Brown would handle the bill if it reaches his desk.

MTSU, Military Deepen Partnership on Robotics Research

MTSU, Military Deepen Partnership on Robotics Research

Visit http://mtsunews.com for further information

A historic educational partnership recently formed between MTSU, the U.S. Army and the U.S. Marine Corps will explore how to add low-cost hardware and software to existing small robots so that Raven unmanned aircraft could be used as an eye-in-the-sky relay.

Submitted on 08/17/12, 08:57 AM

From facilitating missile strikes on terrorists to keeping soldiers from harm's way by defusing IED's in war zones, unmanned aerial and ground vehicles have transitioned from Hollywood scripts to military necessities.

But the technology surrounding these tools holds greater possibilities within and beyond the battlefield, and Middle Tennessee State University will be at the forefront of that research by partnering with the military to explore ways to improve and expand use of this technology, including commercially.

"Imagine a small unmanned aircraft directing a ground robot where to spot-spray agricultural fields for weeds in real time," said Mark Blanks, interim director of the MTSU Unmanned Aerial Systems program. "Or imagine an unmanned ground vehicle providing a closer look at an object identified by an aircraft."

A historic educational partnership recently formed between MTSU, the U.S. Army and the U.S. Marine Corps will explore how to add low-cost hardware and software to existing small robots so that Raven unmanned aircraft could be used as an eye-in-the-sky relay. The pact will allow for the study of ways robots on the ground can be used in concert with unmanned vehicles in the air.

To watch video of the partnership announcement on YouTube, visit http://youtu.be/u0_w9lAL6ug.

Research at the MTSU Farm in Lascassas using robotic and unmanned aerial systems may be one of the initial opportunities the partnership. The agreement allows the Robotic Systems Joint Project Office "to loan and transfer research equipment to MTSU." The Robotic Systems Joint Project Office is headquartered in Warren, Mich., with a satellite office at Redstone Arsenal, and is jointly operated by the Army and Marines.

Additionally, the partnership allows the Army and Marines to assist in the development of courses and materials for MTSU, and involve faculty and students in defense laboratory research projects.

MTSU President Sidney A. McPhee and the Army's Lt. Col. Nick Kioutas recently signed the formal agreement at the Murfreesboro campus. Four students, a military Raven unmanned vehicle, the iRobot PackBot 500 system and other unmanned vehicles participated in a demonstration to media and others attending the announcement - the first of its kind between MTSU and the Army and Marines.

It comes one year after the University and Army entered into another unique partnership to support MTSU's educational and research efforts into the Army's remote-controlled Raven aircraft.

"It's awesome," Brent Taylor, a senior aerospace administration and business double major from Fort Campbell, Ky., said of the technology and research possibilities for students. "I stumbled into it in an unmanned aircraft systems class last fall and then (fellow student) Brett Bornhoft mentioned the unmanned systems club.

"A year later, we've already advanced up to two partnerships and received a special projects grant funding from the MTSU Foundation that was given to us earlier this year that will allow us purchase things like the robots and the technology that goes with them."

Such advances would increase the range and utility of the robots and build on the University's continued pursuits in scientific research by students and faculty.

"Our partnership provides us the opportunity to enhance the capabilities of today's soldier and tomorrow's commercial markets," Blanks said.

Pending FAA approval and with many unknowns surrounding the project, unmanned ground vehicles and aircraft potentially could be used in agricultural applications including:

? inspection of an irrigation pump with its camera;

? an unmanned spraying system for herbicides, pesticides, fertilizer, etc.;

? selectively removing invasive weeds from a high-value crop such as vineyards; and

? monitoring a herd of cattle and even checking vital signs from RF transmitters installed on the cattle.

"We are still trying to determine the way this is going to work," Blanks said. "We know the systems can be used for ag purposes, but it is doubtful that these systems are ideal for it. They probably will be more of a stand-in for a later-to-be-developed commercial robot product."

Adding an unmanned aircraft to the mix, Blanks said counter-improvised explosive device operations gain an aerial view of the surrounding area and can see insurgent "scouts" or other evidence to help in their determination of whether or not the threat they are investigating is really the explosive device.

"The unmanned aircraft system can identify trouble weed areas for agricultural unmanned ground vehicles or highlight cattle with high temperatures for further investigation," Blanks said.

He said the comparison between (IED) improvised explosive device usage and agricultural usage starts with unmanned ground vehicles being used militarily in the following manner:

? a suspicious package or location(s) is brought to the attention of an explosive ordinance device team;

? instead of approaching the location on foot and endangering a soldier, the unmanned ground vehicle is sent in to use its cameras to obtain a closer look at the area and potentially manipulate the package to determine its nature; and

? if there is sufficient reason to believe it is an explosive device, then the unmanned vehicle will be used to carry a smaller demolition charge out to the package, drop the charge and then it will be remotely detonated when the vehicle has returned to safe distance. This should result in a secondary explosion of the device.

Following the recent agreement signing on campus, MTSU senior Steve Lawn, an aerospace professional pilot major from Charleston, S.C., maneuvered a robot across the floor of Cantrell Hall for a demonstration and then outside to the Veterans Memorial site.

"The end goal for interoperability (systems working together) is basically to take all unmanned vehicles - air, ground, water - and have a common interface, a common language so that if a person, a soldier for instance, gets trained on the system, they don't have to go to a different training for every single system," Lawn said.

The robot, which has different variations, is considered an unmanned ground vehicle or tracked vehicle with manipulator arm, Blanks said, adding that both systems came from recent deployment with a combat engineer battalion in Afghanistan, where they were used to investigate and probably defeat improvised explosive devices.

Bornhoft, a junior aerospace engineering student from Kansas City, Mo., and Alex McCloud, a senior aerospace pro pilot major from Maryville, also exhibited their robot-maneuvering expertise.

"These robots save lives," Lt. Col. Kioutas said. "? The Raven UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles), they look like little remote-control airplanes, but there's a lot of technology in there, and those save lives."

Kioutas added that MTSU's existing partnership with the Army to support educational and research efforts into the Army's remote-controlled Raven aircraft and close proximity to Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Ala., helped clinch the relationship.

Lt. Col. Robb Walker of the Army's Unmanned Aircraft Systems program echoed Kioutas' comments.

"The UAS Project Office enjoys a great relationship with MTSU and we're excited about this new opportunity for them," he said.

"This agreement is another in a series of bold steps forward that we've taken to provide the very best in facilities, training and service in this important area," McPhee said.

Blanks re-emphasized the benefit of the partnership to MTSU students.

"Our educational partnership with the Robotic Systems Joint Project Office provides our students with the opportunity to work hands-on with the actual hardware that is employed by today's soldiers and to research the most cutting-edge advances in unmanned technology," he said.

Obama 'deeply saddened' by shooting at Sikh temple

(AP) ? President Barack Obama said Sunday that he and first lady Michelle Obama are "deeply saddened" by the killing of at least six people Sunday at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin, and promised his administration will provide "whatever support is necessary" to those investigating the shooting.

"At this difficult time, the people of Oak Creek must know that the American people have them in our thoughts and prayers, and our hearts go out to the families and friends of those who were killed and wounded," Obama said in a statement issued by the White House.

"As we mourn this loss which took place at a house of worship, we are reminded how much our country has been enriched by Sikhs, who are a part of our broader American family," the president said.

The gunman opened fire and killed six people at a Sikh temple near Milwaukee before he was killed in an exchange of gunfire with a police officer, authorities said.

A White House official said Obama was notified of the Wisconsin shooting shortly before 1 p.m. EDT by Homeland Security Adviser John Brennan. He was updated later in the afternoon by Brennan, FBI Director Robert Mueller and White House Chief of Staff Jack Lew.

The president also spoke by telephone with Charanjeet Singh, trustee of the Sikh Temple, as well as Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and Oak Creek Mayor Steve Scaffidi.

Mitt Romney, likely Republican challenger for the presidency, also expressed his sorrow about the shooting.

"This was a senseless act of violence and a tragedy that should never befall any house of worship," Romney said in a statement. "Our hearts are with the victims, their families, and the entire Oak Creek Sikh community. We join Americans everywhere in mourning those who lost their lives and in prayer for healing in the difficult days ahead."

Political Mobile Donation, Is It Realistic? - The Mobile Nonprofit

by Doug Plank on August 1, 2012

There was quite a buzz generated last month when the FEC approved mobile donations for political campaigns. Indeed, on the surface it seems like a great way to garner support $5 and $10 at a time. According to Business Insider, 30 million American?s don?t have a bank account. How do they participate in the democracy of financially supporting their candidate? Given most adults (18+ years old) in the US have a mobile phone, the idea of enabling them to make a political donation via mobile seems (on the surface) like a great idea. Certainly the fact that according to Pew, at least 9% of all Americans have made a mobile donation to a charity, why not political?

Well there are some unique differences between political and charitable fundraising. For one, the IRS requires that they need to be kept separate. Charitable giving is tax deductible and political is not. Tax deductible Charities have to go through a significant vetting process required by the wireless carriers to determine they are legitimate current 501 c 3?s, are filing their 990?s each year, raise at least $500K and are properly registered in order to raise money in the states where they solicit. The carriers deserve a significant ?shout out? of appreciation for enabling the democratization of easily making micro donations to charities! However, the requirements for political are very different and the carriers will need to assess their business models and the potential changes required to ensure only legitimate candidates are eligible, that donation limits are adhered to, and that all parties involved understand their critical roles?the campaigns, the aggregators, the political donors and mobile providers. My best guess is that if the business requirements can be addressed in a reasonable and sustainable way, that the opportunity for political donations via mobile will become a viable option. The question is when.

MobileCause fundraising and communication tools have the potential to be a great fit for political campaigns.

Family Curator - Home - Book Review: More Genea-Fiction with Prof ...

In the mood for more mystery after last week's interview with genealogical crime author Steve Robinson? Jefferson Tayte's next adventure is slated for spring 2013, and in the meantime you might enjoy browsing through an engaging mystery series by Sarah R. Shaber featuring Professor Simon Shaw, a young history professor at a small college in Raleigh, North Carolina.

In the debut title, Simon Said , a body is found on the archeological dig of a local historic home, but it's not as old as it should be. The unidentified remains appear to be from the 1920s instead of three centuries earlier. Shaw is called in as an expert consultant for his skill has a historical researcher and finds himself reluctantly drawn in to a mystery he can't resist.

Like any genealogist, Shaw knows he has to flesh out the family tree to discover the roots of the story, and therein lies the puzzle.

I enjoyed the well-developed characters in the novel, as much as the mystery. Simon and his faculty friends are interesting people who you grow to care about, and Simon's difficulty coping with his new divorced status is realistic in it's heartache. The mystery itself pulled me along through the pages and made it a quick, but enjoyable read.

I was glad to find that the next book in the series, Snipe Hunt, was also available in the Amazon Kindle Owner's Lending Library to borrow for free for Prime members.

Snipe Hunt ?is set on the North Carolina Outer Banks where Simon joins his friends for a beach house Thanksgiving holiday. When the body of a local man is found in the water with a cache of gold coins, local interest is revived in old tales of shipwrecks and booty. Simon is becoming more comfortable in his role as "forensic historian" with this experience, but he still manages to appear ready to go back to his quiet uneventful life at any time.

Happily (for the readers), people just keep turning up dead and Shaw's adventures continue in three more mysteries. The series now numbers five books, and it's anyone's guess if Shraber will continue with more. Her latest publications have turned to historical fiction featuring Louise Pearlie, a young widow working in Washington, D.C. as a clerk in the OSS (to become the CIA). Louise's War and Louise's Gamble are in my list of Books to Read this Summer!

Yoga; Another Type of Soccer Fitness | SoccerCleats101 - The Blog

Soccer Yoga

After doing one 30 minute session of yoga I knew I had to do my research and see if Yoga could be a good complement to a soccer players usual work out. The half hour yoga session made the normal strength training that I do feel like a walk in the park. I have found that not only is it a great compliment but many professionals swear by it, Ryan Giggs is probably one of the biggest professionals who practices yoga. Listen to what he has to say below.

It tests parts of your body that you just don?t use in football. The first time I did it, about five years ago, I was completely knackered. I went home from the training ground and slept for three hours in the afternoon. I actually dreaded yoga for the first year because it made muscles I didn?t know I had ache, although I know some of the lads think it?s really a bit soft.

Another player to credit Yoga for his extended career is Brad Friedel, goalkeeper for Tottenham Hotspurs. He is 41 years old and still playing strong. Former Spur?s manager Harry Redknapp even brought in a yoga instructor to help give Tottenham an extra edge after seeing the wonders yoga has worked for Brad Friedel.

What is Yoga?? Yoga is an ancient practice that originates from India. It was first found in Hinduism and Buddhism, used by them to practice self discipline, achieve spiritual acuity, strengthen the body and sharpen the mind. In modern times it has become increasingly westernized, more focus has been put into the physical and mental benefits of yoga. It can be high intensity or low intensity and the sessions can be relaxing or result in a real work out as I have experienced.

Yoga is thought of by most people as just stretching but it is much more than that. It creates balance in the body by increasing strength, flexibility and muscular endurance through a series of poses.

What Yoga Can do For Soccer?
1. Help reduce injury
2. Increase flexibility
3. Bolster endurance
4. Strengthen the core
5. Improve joint strength through low impact exercise.

These are just some of the benefits of yoga for soccer players. Over all yoga has positive aspects for all areas of life and not just athletics. Check out the USMNT during their yoga session.

I for one am planning to?implement yoga into my work outs. I was really surprised at how much of a work out I got out of it. It improves over all health and can boost performance, so why not give it a shot. Yoga is easy enough to get into. There are classes and groups all across the states, not to mention the hundreds of video yoga sessions. All you need is a mat and you are set to go. If you find that one of the routines doesn?t quite work for you there are thousands of them out there.

Make Sure you head over to Jimthesoccerguys facebook page and give it a like for all the latest blog updates.?

PFT: Bears, Forte agree to long-term deal

Jonathan Vilma Portrait ShootGetty Images

In many respects, Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma?s effort to block his suspension while his lawsuit unfolds looks a lot like the successful attempt to delay the StarCaps suspensions.? But Vilma?s case has one significant difference.

Along with the obvious (and potent) contention that there?s no way to restore the lost games to Vilma?s career if he ultimately is exonerated, Vilma claims that the suspension will jeopardize his medical condition.

The motion and the signed affidavit from Vilma, copies of which PFT has obtained, explain that Vilma has an injury that requires rehabilitation under the supervision of the Saints medical staff.

Vilma explains that he suffered a knee injury on September 16, 2011, during a non-contact practice drill.? ?I was affected by that injury throughout the remainder of the Season and I believe I was only able to play at 70-75 percent,? Vilma alleges.? ?I was forced to miss five games due to the injury and played in three or four other games against the advice of doctors.?

Vilma explains that he underwent arthroscopic surgery in November, and that after the? 2011 season ended he underwent osteoarticular transfer system surgery.? ?Essentially,? Vilma explains, ?the surgeon removed cartilage from the non-weight bearing side of my knee and placed the cartilage into the weight-bearing part of my knee where I had lost cartilage.?? The surgery aims to have the replaced cartilage become absorbed into the side of the knee where it is needed.

The affidavit details Vilma?s rehab, which included not being able to run for four full months.? Eventually, he received a recommendation from Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez for a doctor in Germany, who removes anti-inflammatory agents from the patient?s blood and then injects the anti-inflammatory agents back into the patient.

Vilma says that he underwent the procedure during the week of July 2, and that it immediately helped reduce the swelling, allowing Vilma to begin running.

To continue his rehab, Vilma says he needs to have access to Saints trainer Scottie Patten, who supervises Vilma?s efforts on a daily basis.? ?I am very concerned that being unable to work with Mr. Patten will jeopardize the rest of my football career and that my condition could deteriorate without his supervision and guidance,? Vilma contends.

It?s an intriguing argument.? Though access to Patten should have no bearing on whether Vilma?s suspension is upheld, it?s another strong reason to delay the suspension until Vilma?s lawsuit aimed at overturning the suspension is resolved.? If, in the end, he wins the lawsuit, Vilma necessarily would have lost important access to a man who can help Vilma work together being healthy enough to further risk his health playing football.

The only problem with the argument is that it gives rise to a potential baby-splitting outcome from Judge Helen G. Berrigan.? She could decide to allow the suspension to remain in place as to practices and games, but to order the NFL to permit Vilma to have access to Patten while the lawsuit proceeds.

Either way, a decision is needed soon.? The Saints open camp in eight days ? and Vilma is already nearly two weeks removed from being able to work with Patten.

How to do Business Negotiations with Chinese Companies | The ...

Negotiating with Chinese Companies is crucial especially in this era where more buyers are sourcing for various merchandise directly from Chinese manufacturers. In business, negotiation is never that easy, but it can prove to be very hard especially when you have to deal with a foreign culture. As much as so many things are negotiable in China you are guaranteed better results if you know how to deal with the manufacturers. The more information you have concerning the culture backgrounds, positions, pressures, etc about your business associate in China the better you can use that information as a negotiating tool to get what you want.

The Chinese manufacturers are very clever. They clearly know everything that you as the buyer need to know about their products and if you are not adequately prepared, they can use this against you. Just before you embark into real life negotiations try to use the most trusted buyer-to-buyer websites in the e-market for market reviews on a particular product you wish to order. This will help you to have clear-cut details on the products you wish to buy and therefore eliminate the chances of miscommunication with your Chinese counterpart.

When Negotiating With Chinese Suppliers it is good advice that you stick to the contract agreement. Bear in your mind that Chinese manufacturers love to build up solid and lasting business relationships even after the trading contract has long been signed. The reason is that Chinese business contracts are just a platform for future negotiations. Most importantly to the Chinese business community, business negotiations is just a part of relationship culture process in China that is commonly referred to as ?guanxi? that is translated as ?if you scratch my back, I might scratch yours?. Try to give your partners fair prices on products as opposed to get lower prices on goods.

Technical behavior is another thing to consider when negotiating With Chinese suppliers. Many multinational companies in China tend to have a high rating of credibility and reputation than their small and medium sized counterparts. They also use resources to invest in R&D something, which makes these suppliers more acceptable in the negotiation desk. Most of the Chinese companies have really opened up to the new opportunities offered by the ICT industry, something that helps them to look for more innovative ideas even from among the small industries. Negotiations methods of the southern China are different from northern China.

The other most important thing you have to know when Negotiating with Chinese Companies is the social behavior. Fact is, it harder to lie to a friend than a stranger. Social status plays an important role in business negotiations in China. The higher up you are as far as social status is concerned the higher chances you have to get a favorable deal in the negotiations desk. Because of many Chinese businesses adoption of the western negotiation patterns of business, the need for personal relationships is slowly diminishing. As a foreign business negotiator, you have to have exceptional interpersonal skills and understand the value of trust.

What are you think about it? Please ?leave a response in comment?.

Homie? Lover? Friend? | datingish

Homie? Lover? Friend?

It's been a few weeks. The 8 a.m. "good morning" texts. Lunches during work breaks. Dinners after long shifts and the weekend movie nights. Everything thus far has been smooth sailing. The "getting to know you" phase; where nothing's too complicated and everything flows because you don't know one another well enough for there to be much else. But, then the questions get redundant and soon you start to wonder about the future of the company you keep and ask yourself the pivotal question: What are we?

This seems to be the question so many people want the answers to after several dates and hour long phone calls. But the fear of making things "complicated" often pushes the breaks on such a simple question.

So what is it? At what point does all the effort of putting your best foot forward actually result in a meaning of it all? Let's not be coy. Women are often the ones who voice this question to begin with. Men are able to ride the wave and not give much thought into labels or defining "hanging out." But like anyone should, women need to know where they stand at all times. It's how we're programmed.

We'd rather you let us know what it is we're doing, so there is no need to guess. And trust me, if you let us, we will SURELY draw our own conclusions which is often the problem we face in so many of relationships, simply because we fail to realize that men are not wired like we are.?

Let me be less vague.?

Over time and relationships, I've learned a few valuable things about men. One, they don't like games. As much as we, as women, think they do, they don't. The guessing games we play as women, men would rather bypass. To them, it's just... "Come right out and say it! Why should I have to guess what you're feeling or know what you're thinking when you have the vocal ability to tell me yourself?"

As simple as it may seem, women often find that hard to handle. I mean let's be real ladies, how many arguments have surfaced resulting from this very issue?

Lastly, two, just because you may see something resulting from the dates, doesn't mean he does. Like I pointed out prior, men like to go with the flow. Nothing too complicated, no pressure. Yes, he may like you, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's looking for a relationship. You could very well just be fun to hang out with. A distraction he's not used to.?

I say all this to conclude: Dating is a process in which you take the time to get to know someone to see what relationship may form. It may be friendship, partnership or simply sexual. Whatever it may be, these things need to be defined within a reasonable time of money spent and hours in each other's company. The last thing you'd want is to go through a whole ordeal and have that taunting question of where you stand.

Man or woman, no one likes to feel like they're being played or taken for a ride. Labels may not be what everyone wants, but trust me, they're necessary to place boundaries. You want people to know their place and where you see or don't see things going.

So if asked at any given point about the status of the relationship with the person you're seen with most frequently, do you honestly know your position? Are you the homie, lover, or friend?

Child diabetes levels almost four times higher in China than in US

ScienceDaily (July 5, 2012) ? A study led by researchers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill found Chinese teenagers have a rate of diabetes nearly four times greater than their counterparts in the United States. The rise in the incidence of diabetes parallels increases in cardiovascular risk, researchers say, and is the result of a Chinese population that is growing increasingly overweight.

The study led by Barry Popkin, Ph.D., W.R. Kenan Jr. Distinguished Professor of nutrition at UNC's Gillings School of Global Public Health, and Chinese researchers, used data from the China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS), the longest ongoing study of its kind in China. Between 1989 and 2011, the study followed more than 29,000 people in 300 communities throughout China, with surveys conducted in 1989, 1991, 1993, 1997, 2000, 2004, 2006, 2009 and 2011. The CHNS project was a joint undertaking by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the Chinese Center for Disease Control (CCDC) National Institute of Nutrition and Food Safety.

The findings appear online in Obesity Reviews. Early View Section and will be published in the September issue (Obesity Reviews Volume 13, Issue 9, September 2012).?

China has experienced unprecedented economic growth in the past two decades, but the study finds that at the same time, China has seen equally dramatic changes in the weight, diets and physical activity levels of its people. UNC-CCDC researchers followed a randomly selected sample representing 56 percent of the Chinese population in 2009 and found large increases in overweight and cardiometabolic risk factors.

"What is unprecedented is the changes in diet, weight and cardiovascular risk for children age 7 and older," said Popkin. "These estimates highlight the huge burden that China's health care system is expected to face if nothing changes."

The UNC-CCDC team observed rates of diabetes of 1.9 percent and pre-diabetes levels of 14.9 percent in Chinese children age 7-17. Researchers noted that high levels of glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) were found in the children's blood. HbA1c is a measure of the average plasma-glucose concentration over time.

"The findings suggest a very high burden of chronic disease risk starting at a young age, with 1.7 million Chinese children ages 7-18 having diabetes and another 27.7 million considered prediabetic," Popkin said. "In addition, more than one-third of children under age 18 had high levels of at least one cardiometabolic risk factor."

Comparing the Chinese data with data from the United States based on National Health and Nutrition Survey (NHANES) results, the authors found that diabetes and inflammation rates were higher in the Chinese pediatric population than in the U.S. pediatric population or in other Asian countries. Researchers found 1.9 percent of Chinese children age 12-18 had diabetes, compared to 0.5 percent of children in the U.S. The study also found great disparity with respect to inflammation, a key cardiovascular risk factor; 12.1 percent of Chinese adolescents showed a high inflammation risk, compared to 8.5 percent of adolescents in the U.S.

"The number of individuals with high levels of at least one cardiovascular risk factor increased to 85 percent in individuals age 40 and older," said Penny Gordon-Larsen, Ph.D., professor of nutrition in UNC's Gillings School of Global Public Health. "Of even greater concern is the fact that we see these high levels of risk in individuals living across the entire country -- in rural and urban, as well as high and low-income areas. So the impending health care costs and implications are immense."

These results reinforce earlier research by the authors that found higher levels of obesity emerging in the past decade among the poor and those living in rural areas of China.

The new study is titled "The expanding burden of cardiometabolic risk in China: the China Health and Nutrition Survey."

Research assistant professor of nutrition Shufa Du, Ph.D. and professor of nutrition Linda Adair, Ph.D., both of UNC's Gillings School of Global Public Health also co-authored the study.

Co-authors from China include Shegkai Yan, Guangzhou Improve Medical Instruments Co., Ltd., Guangzhou; Jiang Li, M.D., Department of Laboratory Medicine, China-Japan Friendship Hospital, Beijing; and Bing Zhang, Ph.D., Public Health Nutrition Department, National Institute of Nutrition and Food Safety, Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Beijing.

The study is funded by the National Institutes of Health with additional funding from the CCDC.

America?s Patent Crisis

But in the thriving digital sector, patents don?t work at all, and more patents are likely to cause more litigation rather than more innovation. A product like the iPhone that was world-changing and awesome five years ago seems boring today, leaving people to wonder what?s next. In this space, where the capital costs of innovating are relatively low, invention is driven by competition not monopolies. Practical engineers working in high-tech understand that the patent war is bad for innovation, but disturbingly the big corporate players in the industry are reconciling to it?costing American consumers billions and stifling startups. The government hands out patents so freely that there?s no way to make anything without violating every other big player?s patents. That?s fine for established firms that have had time to assemble (or buy) vast patent arsenals. But it?s a disaster for new entrants, who know that any successful new product they make will be taxed by a storm of litigation once it becomes popular. The real risk of ?foregone innovation? is that resources will be shunted away from making great products into hiring lawyers and away from investing in promising new firms into investing in old ones with legacy patent arsenals.
